Performance improvement of an internally blocking optical packet/burst switch
نویسندگان
چکیده
Optical packet/burst switching is considered a promising technique to improve the performance of optical networks. Key components in these technologies are the optical switching nodes. Some of these node architectures suffer from internal blocking. Synchronous operation allows overcoming most of the problems introduced by this internal blocking. However, in asynchronous networks internal blocking can have a more pronounced effect. In this paper we propose a windowing technique to improve the performance of internally blocking optical switching nodes in asynchronous operation. Simulations will show that significant improvements can be made.

Design of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
متن کاملTime Sliced Optical Burst Switching
Time Sliced Optical Burst Switching is a proposed variant of optical burst switching, in which switching is done in the time domain, rather than the wavelength domain. This eliminates the need for wavelength converters, the largest single cost component of systems that switch in the wavelength domain. We examine some of the key design issues for routers that implement time sliced optical packet...
متن کاملA hybrid optical switching approach
− The optical circuit switching (OCS) is a sophisticated technology widely deployed in current optical networks, and has many advantages to transport the stable and longduration traffic flows. However, it is not suitable for bursty data traffic. On the other hand, an alternate technology, optical burst switching (OBS), well addresses the bursty IP traffic transport, but not suitable for stable ...
متن کاملAn Efficient Routing Scheme to Reduce Packet Loss in All Optical Networks
Optical burst switching (OBS) is a promising technology for the next generation optical Internet. A buffer-less OBS network can be implemented using ordinary optical communication equipment without the need for either wavelength converters or optical memories. However, OBS networks suffer from a relatively high blocking probability, a primary metric of interest, because of contention. In this p...
متن کاملGb / s Silicon All - Optical Packet Switch for Buffer - less Optical Burst Switching
We experimentally demonstrate a 160-Gb/s Ethernet 4 packet switch using an 8.6-mm-long silicon nanowire for optical 5 burst switching, based on cross phase modulation in silicon. One 6 of the four packets at the bit rate of 160 Gb/s is switched by an 7 optical control signal using a silicon based 1 × 1 all-optical packet 8 switch. Error free performance (BER < 1E-9) is achieved for the 9 switch...
